Katie

Katie

Katie is looking for someone very special. Her life has been a sad example of why border collies are not great pets for everyone. All too often, well meaning people get border collies and lavish pets, praise, and all the good things of life. However, not unlike a spoiled child, border collies will begin to demand that things go their way. They will take the leadership role if their human doesn’t take it, and will enforce their desires with their teeth if necessary. Katie is not an aggressive dog, but she does need to know that she isn’t the one in charge and she must do as she’s told. This is actually very easy with her, especially since a treat will get her to do anything, so confrontations are unnecessary. However, with her history of biting her previous owner, we must adopt her only to a very experienced person who will take appropriate steps at keeping her out of trouble. Katie is crate trained, house trained, and loves her toys and humans. She’s good with other dogs. She should not be kept in the yard unsupervised, as she gets bored and starts barking at garden machinery or squirrels, etc. Katie is about 5 years old, and could lose some weight, but she’s a very beautiful, classically marked border collie. Abby

Abby

Abby is a young, black and white, smooth-coated female border collie. She is very friendly, and loves to get pets and cuddles. We think she was probably born about June 30, 2007. As with most border collies, Abby has lots of energy. She loves to run and play with other dogs. She may chase cats if they run, however she plays nicely with my small rat terrier, so she may do fine with cats who are good with dogs. She has a history of car chasing which we’ve worked on, however she shouldn’t be left out unattended or this bad habit will likely return. A bored border collie will do such things! Abby needs a home who will appreciate her activity, and channel it in positive directions. She has had a few months of sheep herding training, however she doesn’t take her “work” seriously enough to be a good ranch dog. She thoroughly enjoys it, though! We feel that Abby would be best suited for an active home wanting a high-energy, happy-go-lucky border collie for agility. She’s very bright, and in great shape physically. Abby is crate trained, and doing better on house training. She has so much fun outside, she often forgets why she went out there in the first place! If you watch her closely, she will give you signs she wants out, but lots of times she wants out or just something to do!
